Define the best attributes of a local drive-in & the first picture that comes to mind for me is Dillinger's. I've eaten here (off & on) since high school not just because it was nearby but because it was a bit of an anomaly. Dillinger's is the rare drive-in where the food is consistently solid, the people are friendly, the place is always spotless (yeah, I said spotless) and you get that feeling like they know and share your sense of community. My favorites here are the Pizza Burger, marinara sauce, cheese, and the fried mushrooms. Always hot. Always delicious. Great pizz a puffs, dogs and other greasy spoon staples. Their shakes have real fruit, which when the pieces aren't getting stuck in your straw add to their flavor. While the place is usually busy, the lines move quickly. The fact that it is usually busy says something about Dillinger's since it is 30 seconds away from both a Mickey D's and a Burger King. One of the owners is always in, unless he's sick. You'll recognize him as the guy on the wall in dozens of (now) vintage photos of the Bulls during their championship runs. It is a secondary theme - contemporary Chicago - which complements nicely the old gangster theme of this spot which includesa bust of Mr. Dillinger head. But it's how on point the place can get that surprises you. Listening to music from the outdoor speakers is something people unintentionally find themselves doing when they come here R&B, reggae, doo-wop, they play a variety. Recently, a few songs into a Saturday afternoon I noticed what was on: the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack. In their own quiet, yet audible way, Dillinger's was connecting to the thoughts of many of their customer's who hunger for a different type of peace that can't be found on a bun.

Haven't been in this place since the mid '80s... Drove by and was surprised they were still there... Stopped in just for old time sake... Food was still very good... Don't remember all the stupid pics up... But worth the stop Make no mistake it is fast food

THE HOME OF THE CBS - QUARTER POUND CHEESEBURGER!...Great food and goooood service for years. This little southside spot has been serving this area for over 20yrs. The food here is very good and they have a wide variety of selections to choose from. Another thing that stands out about this place is the famous pictures that surround the inside. The owners obviously have connections with big time celebs...(They have pictures of all the popular sports figures in chicago, M.J....etc). Go and check this place out..and dont forget to get a fresh fruit shake...THE BEST

The employees are friendly, but the food is NOT good. I ordered a dipped Italian beef sandwich and received a dry, tough, item made from substandard mystery eat. It was horrible! For sanitary and health reasons, cashiers can not handle money and food. At Dillinger's, as long as the cashiers don't "touch the top of the food" they can handle it. Eek! The cashier offered me cash back for my fries after I complained about him handling them; however, he gave the fries back to the cook, who placed a napkin over the top, handed them back to the cashier, who placed it in my bag. Yuck! Immediately, I threw away the fries. The Italian beef sandwich was horrendous. The cheap meat was dry, difficult to swallow and lacked seasoning. I also threw the sandwich away. The best thing about the sandwich? The ketchup I added for flavor. I agree with reviewer Keziah C regarding the photos...focus on improving the quality of your food; not pics with celebrities who look extremely bored standing next to the owner, the guy with the big mustache. Really, I'm not impressed with people who display their photos in which they stand next to a celeb and/r an athlete. This is akin to name-dropping. Basically, no one cares, but you. No, I will NEVER return to this place. Not sure of its appeal, but it's definitely not the food.

Usually I get the Gyro Dinner, but this time was the Cheeseburger Special. The fries here are REALLY good, always get fries with whatever you order. Call ahead if possible if you are doing carry out, 10 minutes and your food is ready when you arrive. I have been going to Dillingers for a LONG time, I work in the area and they are on the "We get food from here" list. Good food, clean place, nice people with whom to do business. Located just east of I-57 on 127th Street, north side of the road.

This is one of the most underappreciated places in the city. If you don't go here for anything, make sure you go for the strawberry shake! The best strawberry shake I ever had in my life! They have other shakes also. The burgers and philly chessesteak is pretty good as well. If you are a Chicago Bulls fan you will love this place. They have shrines all over the place with pics of Michael Jordan and the glory years. This place always usually hits the spot, so if you are ever on I-57 and want to stop for some good stuff. Get off on 127th and go east and you will run right into it.

I love Dillinger's... even if it's just for nostalgia's sake because I lived in the area for so long. When I decided to try gyros for the first time, I ordered the gyro special from Dillinger's and fell in love. Now, 17 years later it's still my go-to item when I'm undecided about what to get. The shakes are delicious, my favorite is the pineapple. It's a small drive-in diner, but the food is always good, the place is always SPOTLESS with great pictures of celebrities on the wall. There's one thing I've always wondered though... how does that mustached-guy (who I assume owns Dillinger's) get all the hookups with the celebrities?? I mean he's always in these (what looks to be) VIP areas chilling with celebs like it's a normal everyday thing for him... Is he in the "business" or what? LOL I want to ask, but I'm too scared. LOL But I digress... check out Dillinger's at least one time. Hopefully it won't be your last.

I grew up eating at Dillinger's and I'm soooo thankful that it's now around for me to share with my children. EVERYTHING ON THE MENU IS DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They're known for the CBS (Cheeseburger Special) and their real fruit milkshakes that are absolutely wonderful. They also have turkey burgers for those who don't eat beef or pork Another fascinating thing about this restaurant is all of the pictures of different famous people. They even have the original death mask of Mobster John Dillinger. I was sooo afraid of it when I was younger, but now see it as a piece of art w/ loads of history behind it. The seating is limited on the inside but in the summer they have lunch tables outside of the restaurant.

My girlfriend and I went here expecting something at least kind of special. We got standard fare: a cheeseburger for me, chicken breast sandwich for her, fries, and chocolate milkshakes. We were disappointed. We could've stayed in our neighborhood (Pilsen) to get the same quality food at a much lower price. In retrospect, we should've got fruit milkshakes, but we didn't know at the time; besides, it's not hard to make a pretty good chocolate shake.

I've been going to Dillinger's since I was in high school, so that is about 11 years now. There food is always spectacular! I recommend the gyro cheeseburger, fries with mild sauce and a strawberry banana shake that is so good you will come back for more.

Great food and reminds me of real authentic American food not the Fast food, Order ahead to save time

I'll never understand why so many people go ga-ga for this place. They're way overpriced and their foods not that great. I think the owner must be charging you to view all the pictures on the wall with the celebrities he's met! Their corned beef sandwich sucks, their burrito sucks. They serve their chili cheese fries in the paper bag instead of a Styrofoam container and what you get is a sloppy mess! The only items on the menu that are half-way respectable are the gyros and the turkey burger (this one's for you calorie watcher's). Other than that, that's it. Like I said earlier, if you stop in enjoy the pictures of all the Chicago celebrities on the wall. Have to get your monies worth some how. It's not going to come from the food!

Cheap, good greasy food! 2 pizza puff special with fries for 4 bucks. That's just ridiculous! I hate to admit it since I've been trying to eat better, but I've had their philly cheesesteak, hot dogs, and pizza puffs already and thought they were all good. Thankfully they aren't open late besides Friday and Saturdays as it'd just be more temptation.

Delicious Italian Sausage with red sauce, it has a nice spice! I've never ever tasted an Italian sausage until my friend, who lives down the street, told me to have lunch. Now I can only compare Italian sausages with red sauce (marinera) to this one! . The place is small, an in and out type of place, with lots of parking in what youd think would be a sketchy neighborhood. The owner is a pretty popular as he has photos all over his restaurants with famous persons...

Just because a hotdog stand has tons of pics with the owner with a bunch of celebs doesn't mean it's good. I've had better. Focus on your food not pics with celebs.
